Newtown PA Dance Classes for the Beginner to Pre-Professional
Acro/Acrobatics – Acro class is a form of physical activity that combines dance and gymnastics. This class focuses on developing strength, flexibility, and coordination while teaching various techniques such as tumbling, stretching, and teamwork.
Adult Ballet, Adult Tap, Adult Jazz – The adult dance classes are designed for adults of all ages and skill levels who want to learn and enjoy the art of ballet, tap, or jazz. It provides a nurturing and supportive environment where participants can improve their posture, strength, flexibility, rhythm and coordination while exploring the artistry of dance and having fun. This class welcomes both beginners who are new to dance and experienced dancers who wish to refine their skills with variations given on exercises based on skill level.
Advanced Musical Theater/Heels – For dancers interested in the heels dance styles seen from NYC to Los Angeles, this class focuses on foundational techniques like posture, alignment, and footwork, essential for building confidence and control in heels. It combines elements from various dance styles, like jazz, hip-hop, and contemporary, while emphasizing technique, expression, and performance quality in heels.
Ballet Workshop A, B, or C – Ballet technique at varying levels, utilizing Vaganova and Balanchine techniques. These classes participate in the “big ballet” production at the recital.
Ballet/Jazz – Ballet is a classical dance form that focuses on grace, precision, and storytelling through movement. In ballet class, students learn the fundamentals of technique, including positions of the arms and feet, turn-out, and body alignment. Jazz dance is a dynamic and energetic form of expression that combines elements of ballet, modern dance, and popular music. In jazz class, students learn syncopated rhythms, isolations, and high-energy movements. Ballet/Jazz levels B – F participate in the “big ballet” production at the recital.
Ballet/Tap/Jazz – A combination class for young dancers wanting training in a little bit of everything – ballet, jazz, and tap. Proper ballet technique is emphasized in a fun and positive atmosphere while encouraging all to reach their fullest potential. Tap and Jazz then add the element of rhythm! The use of props and costumes promote creativity and self expression!
Broadway Babies (Tap) – a beginner class learning tap technique and basics to your favorite Broadway tunes!
Tutus and Tap Shoes – A fun and exciting class for young dancers! Featuring ballet, tap, and more for those bound for Broadway!
Character Dance – Character dance class is a vibrant and exciting form of dance that focuses on developing a dancer’s ability to portray different characters through movement. This class combines various dance styles to teach students how to express emotion, create distinct personalities, and tell stories through their dance.
Contemporary – Contemporary dance is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres. Contemporary technique strives to connect the mind and the body through fluid dance movements, level/direction changes, release work, and improvisational characteristics.
Contemporary Jazz – Contemporary Jazz is a strong and emotional dance style that combines the storytelling and emotion of contemporary dance with the expressive and dynamic movements of jazz. This class focuses on bridging the two styles, allowing dancers an introduction in the contemporary style while maintaining roots in foundational jazz technique.
Dance Conditioning – Discover the perfect synergy of dance and fitness in our Dance Conditioning Class. This class is designed to sculpt and tone your body, improve flexibility, and enhance your dance skills through a combination of strength training exercises, dynamic movements, and stretching techniques.
Dance for Special Needs – A fun class for kids with special needs to come dance in a safe supportive environment. This dance class promotes physical activity/fitness, increases confidence and self-esteem, provides stress relief, improves motor skills, strength, flexibility, and is an outlet for creativity and imagination. Open to dancers of all ages and abilities! Come join the fun and learn about various techniques and styles of dance!
Disney Dance – A fun and energetic combination class for young dancers featuring both ballet and jazz technique set to Disney music and themes! Your dancers will learn proper ballet technique and terminology in a positive and encouraging environment, while also learning self- expression through jazz.
Diva Pop Stars– Fun jazz movements to today’s hits! Release your inner superstar!!
Hip Hop – Varying levels of street, funk dance, breaking, popping, and electric boogie. Hip-Hop dance is an urban style of dance that is always evolving with many different styles. High energy, upbeat, focusing on musicality and rhythm.
Jazz – Jazz classes are a vibrant, energetic and dynamic form of dance that focuses on teaching students the fundamentals of jazz techniques, including body alignment, rhythmic movements, isolations, and musicality. Students will learn to master a variety of jazz styles such as Broadway, funk, and contemporary jazz, while improving their flexibility, coordination, and strength.
Lyrical – Lyrical class is a dance style that effortlessly blends the fluidity of ballet with the expressiveness of contemporary dance. In this class, students learn to convey emotions and tell stories through graceful movements and intricate choreography set to enchanting music. With a focus on fluidity, musicality, and connection to the lyrics, lyrical class allows dancers to explore their creativity and connect with the audience on a deep, emotional level.
Little Lyrical Tots – Little Lyrical Tots class is a lyrical class specifically made for our youngest dancers. In this class, students will explore creative expression and story-telling through dance.
Lyrical/Jazz – Lyrical Jazz is a captivating and emotional dance style that combines the fluidity and grace of ballet with the expressive and dynamic movements of jazz. This class focuses on exploring the connection between music and movement, allowing dancers to truly express themselves through intricate choreography and storytelling.
Jump/Turn – Jump and Turn Class is a dynamic and energetic dance class designed to enhance the skills of aspiring dancers. Focusing on developing agility, coordination, and body control, this class offers intensive training in leaps, jumps, and turns. Students will learn techniques and exercises to increase their height and precision in jumps, as well as power and fluidity in turns.
Master Ballet Technique – A ballet master technique class is a rigorous and specialized training session designed for ballet dancers. This class focuses on refining and perfecting classical ballet techniques, aiming to push dancers to their highest potential and level of skill. In this class, dancers will practice intricate footwork, precise body alignment, fluidity of movement, and attention to detail. Employing both barre and center exercises.
Mini Ballet Technique– Mini Ballet Technique classes are specialized training sessions designed for young (mini) ballet dancers. This class focuses on refining and perfecting foundational classical ballet techniques, aiming to push dancers to their highest potential and level of skill. In this class, dancers will practice intricate footwork, precise body alignment, fluidity of movement, and attention to detail. Employing both barre and center exercises.
Pointe– Varying levels of classical ballet technique wearing pointe shoes, along with the study of classical ballet variations from famous ballets. Pre-Pointe is offered to those who are not yet wearing pointe shoes to further develop and strengthen the muscles necessary to go en pointe. If interested in beginning pointe please inquire with the studio to find out if you are ready.
Pre-Pointe/Beginner Pointe – Utilizing ballet technique and careful articulation and stability exercises, this class will prepare students who are ready to begin Pointe training. Students will start off the year with Pre-Pointe work to develop and strengthen the muscles necessary to dance en pointe. The class will then progress to wearing pointe shoes and work on perfecting the basics necessary to develop a strong technical foundation. This allows the students to gain confidence in their technique and will set them up for success in their future Pointe classes. Princess Ballet – Beginner ballet technique with a “Princess Theme” each week. This class, for our youngest dancers, encourages beginning steps in ballet, jazz and creative movement. Princess themes keep all intrigued and motivated! You might even see a visit by a real princess! Props (tutus, tiaras, wands, etc.) are used to encourage attentiveness. Praise is abundant and our littlest dancers finish with great pride in their numerous accomplishments!
Private Lessons – One-on-one training is available in all styles of dance.
Tap – Traditional tap styles with a heavy Broadway influence.
Team Workshop Mini/Junior/Senior – Individualized workshop classes in all forms of dance for the competition teams. By Audition only.
Team Group Dance Classes – learn choreography to be taken to competition and practice it each week in these classes. For DSDW team members only.

Tik Tok Hip Hop – A hip hop class with tik tok inspired songs and choreography!
Two’s in Tutus – A new class for two year olds. Wear your tutu and learn in a fun and nurturing class atmosphere with lots of giggles, movement and dance! Lots of props are used to provide a fun exploratory class without any pressure. Creative dance games are included as well as learning the foundational steps and concepts of dance. The emphasis is on developing a sense of larger motor skills and beginner dance steps through movement!
Voice and Acting for Dancers – Learn how to be a triple threat! Sing and act to Broadway classics and learn proper voice training techniques to take your singing to the next level!
Day Camps – Come to one of our summer camps but there’s a twist it’s during the school year!!
